De Blasio Announces His Performance For The Anniversary Of George Floyd’s Death

Do you remember the cringe-worthy performance US Democrats in Congress gave following weeks of protests over the death of George Floyd? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, along with several Democratic lawmakers, decided to drape themselves in kente stoles and kneel for eight minutes and forty-six seconds on the floor of Congress. The performance was not only misguided but an outright mockery.

Liberal lawmakers never seem to stop playing ‘political theater’ and giving largely symbolic performances to push their agenda. Now, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has said he will join Harlem faith leaders to kneel for 9 minutes and 29 seconds in tribute to George Floyd on the one-year anniversary of his death. The kneeling act has been a representation that then-police officer Derek Chauvin used when he kneeled on Floyd’s neck.

But this isn’t the first time Mayor de Blasio has tried to boast his reputation through George Floyd. Last June, he was booed and heckled in Brooklyn by a crowd at a George Floyd memorial. Rev. Kevin McCall, the event organizer, had asked the crowd for “respect” as people turned their backs and started to boo loudly. De Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, even took the mic and asked the crowd to give her husband “the same respect you give me.” But they didn’t. The mayor talked anyway, but it was barely audible over catcalls and chants of “resign.” He talked for about 90 seconds and then gave up.

“George Floyd cannot be allowed to die in vain. We have to make a change in this city and this country” – with changes in the NYPD too. We need peaceful change in this city once and for all,” de Blasio said.

The event will be hosted by Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network and focus on topics such as civil rights, social justice, and closing the racial gap. President Joe Biden is expected to host the Floyd family at the White House and promote the George Floyd Act during the event.

President Biden said that they would call for the ‘George Floyd Justice and Policing Act’ to be passed in the US Senate, which would ban chokeholds, no-knock warrants, and remove qualified immunity for law enforcement officers. He even promised to fly the Floyd family to the White House on Air Force One for a signing ceremony if the act is passed.

Hundreds of people gathered over the weekend in front of the downtown Minneapolis court where the Chauvin trial was concluded to mark the one-year anniversary of Floyd’s death. Even Floyd’s brother, Terrence, attended a gathering in Brooklyn to urge supports not to forget “victims of racist violence. “If you keep my brother’s name ringing, you’re going to keep everybody else’s name ringing. Breonna Taylor, Sean Bell, Ahmaud Arbery, you could go through the whole list. There’s a lot of them,” he said.

But many cities with democratic leaders are seeing a surge in crime since supporting the George Floyd riots last summer. In fact, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Los Angeles are already requesting more police funding over the high crime rates and officer shortages in their city. Talk about “refunding” the police.

Since Speaker Pelosi first kneeled on the Congress floor, the George Floyd Act, along with the rest of their political stunts, has been about nothing more than protecting criminals and penalizing police officers. It was never about fighting against racism, being social justice warriors, or anything else that the mainstream media preached about. It was just another stunt to get the bill they wanted on the House Floor.

And for de Blasio, this is a good photo op for next year’s reelection race…if he didn’t botch up his reputation enough already.
