After Twitter was called to testify before Congress for censorship issues and saw their stock prices plummet, the social media platform has finally unlocked the New York Post’s Twitter account.
Originally, Twitter froze the NY Post Twitter account after they posted their own reporting of the Hunter Biden email allegations. Twitter also blocked anyone from sharing or retweeting the article, leading to a mass hysteria over whether or not people really had “free speech” to post their political views on the site. They called the site “biased” for being able to share Russian hoax information about President Trump, but blocked and removed all Biden email allegations and labeled it “misinformation.” Twitter faced massive backlash over intentionally silencing right-leaning voices and conservative stories that favor President Trump over the democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
“Our policies are living documents. We’re willing to update and adjust them when we encounter new scenarios or receive important feedback from the public. One such example is the recent change to our Hacked Materials Policy and its impact on accounts like the New York Post,” the Twitter Safety page posted.
Twitter stated they are updating their practices in a way that is fair and appropriate of not retroactively overturning prior enforcement. By updating the Hacked Materials Policy, decisions previously made can now be appealed if the account at issue is a driver of that change. Because of that change, the NY Post Account can no longer be restricted under the terms of the previous policy.
Shortly after the block was removed, the NY Post tweeted again. The message went viral, racking up 17,000 retweets and close to 50,000 likes in an hour.
“FREE BIRD! Twitter backs down, finally unlocks Post account after Biden ban,” the NY Post tweeted, attaching a picture of a bird fleeing a cage. An article was attached summarizing their battle with Twitter in unlocking its main account over the Hunter Biden email scandals that went public.
In the two-week span that the account was frozen, the NY Post gained about 190,000 new followers, a 10.6% increase. There are thousands of other people who have permanently lost their accounts for posting conservative tweets and retweeting the NY Post Story. Twitter finally threw in the towel after getting caught doing so.
By limiting free speech, mainstream media platforms continue to silence the right and advocate the left. It’s only going to be another consequence for Twitter when there’s a landslide victory of Donald Trump on November 3rd. Every dog has its day.
