President Trump recently commented on Sen. Ben Sasse, just days after private comments he made about the President went public.
In leaked audio by The Washington Examiner, the Nebraska Senator is heard saying the commander in chief mistreats women, kisses dictators’ butts, and mocks evangelicals. Sasse was asked a series of questions regarding his criticism of President Trump, in which he tried to clarify that he and the President differ on a lot of issues.
“The United States now regularly sells out our allies under his leadership, the way he treats women, spends like a drunken sailor. The ways I criticize President Obama for that kind of spending; I’ve criticized President Trump for as well. He mocks evangelicals behind closed doors. His family has treated the presidency like a business opportunity. He’s flirted with white supremacists,” Sasse said.
The Washington Post reported on the relationship between Sasse and the President, noting that Sasse was critical of then-candidate Trump in 2016, but toned it down after receiving Trump’s endorsement earlier this year. The President used Twitter as a way to remind the Senator of that.
“The least effective of our 53 Republican Senators, and a person who truly doesn’t have what it takes to be great, is Little Ben Sasse of Nebraska, a State which I have gladly done so much to help. @SenSasse was as nice as a RINO can be until he recently won the Republican Nomination to run for a second term. Then he went back to his rather stupid and obnoxious ways. Must feel he can’t lose to a Dem. Little Ben is a liability to the Republican Party and an embarrassment to the Great State of Nebraska. Other than that, he’s just a wonderful guy!” President Trump tweeted.
The communications director for Sasse, James Wegmann, said that Ben is focused on defending the Republican Senate majority and isn’t going to waste a single minute on tweets.
Sasse was so vile in his depiction of Trump it’s got to make you wonder if he’s afraid of some scandal being investigated if Trump is re-elected. Seems like we are moving closer to that win each day.
