The mask debate is back at it again and this time with some racial profiling. For weeks now, the debates have been extreme on both sides. You’re either a grandma killer or controlled by the government. Then there’s one Oregon county that decided they weren’t content with either side of the debate and inserted another divisive topic into the mix: race.
Lincoln County declared last week that everyone has to wear a mask except non-white people who are nervous about being harassed because they’re wearing a face mask. The directive from the Lincoln County Public Health Administrator and Lincoln County Health Officer, dated June 16, ordered “all individuals” in the county to wear masks at all indoor public settings and any outdoor public settings where they can’t keep at least six feet apart from other people not in their own household. The usual exceptions were for children and people with health conditions or disabilities and then adds one more exception: “People of color who have heightened concerns about racial profiling and harassment due to wearing face coverings in public.”
A CNN report showed that many black leaders and ordinary citizens were concerned about possible racial profiling when it comes to wearing masks. Professors told CNN they have a lot of examples of the presumed criminality of black men in general. “You’re basically telling people to look dangerous given racial stereotypes,” Ohio State University professor Trevon Logan said.
ACLU said the CDC’s information and video on masks is nothing more than “racial insensitivity” given that the video is of U.S Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams, who is black, showing how to make a mask out of a bandana, shirt or scarf. It seems to be that being an extreme leftist just looks exhausting. They are constantly offended, always worrying about political correctness, and think everyone is racist. I wouldn’t want to live like that. Not wearing a mask is selfish because you’ll kill Grandma but killing Grandma is fine as long as Grandma is black because of “racial profiling.” Wait, what?
For Lincoln County, this just looks like a rhetorical exercise anyway – one that has appeared to only exacerbate the mask fight. People of color have been shown to have a higher intrinsic risk of COVID morbidity that persists in the data despite socioeconomic factors. This is another pandemic of leftism, and to me, doesn’t excluding a high-risk group from a safety measure based on skin color almost seem, dare I say it?…Racist.
