There have been recent talks of another Trump impeachment trial, since the one-year anniversary of the first impeachment inquiry, but many Democrats have questioned whether or not that is a good idea, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Nancy Pelosi told reporters that pursuing the impeachment of President Donald Trump again wouldn’t be worth the trouble at this point. She asked whether or not Democrats would look to impeach the President or Attorney General Bill Barr in order to prevent the Senate from acting.
“We have our options. We have arrows in our quiver that I’m not about to discuss right now, but the fact is we have a big challenge in our country. This president has threatened to not even accept the results of the election. Our main goal would be to protect the integrity of the election as we protect the people from the coronavirus,” Pelosi said.
Pelosi has promised to protect our democracy and to use “every arrow in our quiver.” This suggestion is a bizarre and dangerous power move, leading Republicans (and even some Democrats) to threaten her speakership if she tries to bring forth impeachment charges to delay President Trump from filling the SCOTUS seat.
One Democrat in particular, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (D-Calif) talked to reporters about Pelosi’s comment on a possible second round of impeachment trials.
“I will make you this one promise, listening to the speaker on television this weekend, if she tries to move for an impeachment based upon the president following the Constitution, I think there will be a move on the floor to no longer have the question of her being speaker. She may think she has a quiver – we do too. The president is supposed to move forward and they will,” McCarthy said.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, on the other hand, has not ruled out launching impeachment proceedings against Trump or Attorney General William Barr. She recently talked at a New York press conference about how the Trump Administration has engaged in an enormous amount of law-breaking and that the Democrats will use “all tools available to our disposal” when asked about the prospect of impeachment. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer nodded in agreement.
Only a Democrat would think it is perfectly logical to impeach a President for fulfilling his or her constitutional duty.
