Last month, President-elect Joe Biden estimated another 250,000 Americans would die of coronavirus between December and January. He discussed the high infection rates and hospitalizations spreading nationwide during a small business roundtable and warned Americans to cancel their holiday plans.
“Christmas is going to be a lot harder. I don’t want to scare anybody here, but understand the facts — we’re likely to lose another 250,000 people dead between now and January. You hear me?” Biden asked.
According to the COVID Tracking Project, which collects and publishes tracing data, the U.S death toll stands at 72,000 deaths total in December. The number was off by about 178,000. This data is collected from official US state, territorial, and federal sources.
People were skeptical to follow Biden’s prediction of losing 250,000 American lives in 29 days and thought it was another one of his famous gaffes. Another example of this was back in September during a campaign trail when Biden said an estimated 200 million people have already died from COVID-19, even though the number was closer to 200,000.
Biden previously proposed a national mask mandate in order to stop the spread of COVID-19, although officials claimed this poses definite legal problems. There would be no legal authority to enact a nationwide mask mandate except on federal property. Even that could be challenged in court.
“The president cannot impose a nationwide mask mandate, and Biden knows that. I am more skeptical about a mandate on certain forms of interstate travel. Really, that approach would do little to prevent spread. Most people in federal buildings are already masked. And I don’t know how many people still ride interstate trains and buses,” said Joshua Blackman, South Texas College of Law.
The U.S government’s top infectious diseases expert Dr. Anthony Fauci offered some hope for the future and predicted that schools would safely reopen, even when there’s substantial community transmission. He also talked about the distribution of vaccines for the broader public and a ‘strong semblance of normality’ by early autumn 2021.
Fauci will be operating under the Biden Administration, despite countless issues in maintaining public trust with the American people and openly admitting to shifting around the herd immunity goalposts in order to retain a particular narrative. Dr. Fauci claims to speak for “objective science” but delivers the subjective dogma of instilling fear alongside the radical left.
Biden and Fauci have been wrong about almost everything so far, why trust them now?
