Judge Amy Coney Barrett recently released her remarks regarding the Supreme Court nomination hearings and people are not happy…of course. The hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee will begin on Monday under Chairman Graham, Ranking Member Feinstein, and Members of the Committee.
Barrett began the letter by first thanking the President, Senator Young, members of the committee, and her family for the opportunities and for being entrusted with this profound responsibility. She told the committee that policy decisions and value judgments should be made by government branches that are held accountable to the American people.
Barrett also included what she expected of the court and the people.
“But courts are not designed to solve every problem or right every wrong in our public life. The policy decisions and value judgments of government must be made by the political branches elected by and accountable to the People. The public should not expect courts to do so, and courts should not try,” the letter reads.
She talks about her approach in the court system by carefully considering the argument presented by both parties, discussing the issues with court colleagues, and reaching the results required by law, whatever her own preferences might be.
It didn’t take long for left-winged activists to tweet about Barrett being an insidious hypocrite. People made jokes about her experience as a judge and how they wouldn’t even let someone with 3 years experience remodel their kitchen. Others claimed that she is going to try and overturn gay rights and prevent gay adoption…and the list goes on.
The claims were backed up by zero evidence and just political smear for the left to use. For being pro-women and radical feminists, many liberals really chewed up Amy Coney Barrett as a woman being selected for the nomination.
However, others are more concerned that the Senate Democrats will turn the hearing into a political circus to tank Barrett’s confirmation. They have been trying to oppose moving forward with the hearings and delaying it, even by a day or two. They have threatened to launch another impeachment effort against President Trump and even indicated that they might boycott the proceedings.
Democrats have also used COVID-19 as an excuse not to move forward with Barrett’s hearing. However, there have been calls for mandatory coronavirus testing for lawmakers attending the hearing. Members of the court have also been following the medical guidance of the Capitol physician regarding ways to social distance and protect everyone’s safety.
The Democrats have had many tricks up their sleeves to stop and delay the court nomination. We all know if the roles were reversed there would be a media storm in minutes.
