Over the last few days, people have criticized and questioned why President Joe Biden was the only world leader who wore a mask for a Zoom call during a recent climate change summit. This made it evidently clear that Biden, who is already vaccinated, is not wearing a mask to follow the science or for totally unarguable scientific reasons, but as a political stunt. A picture is worth a thousand words.
Other social media users pointed to the Biden photo ops where he’s seen alone, outdoors, and with no one around him, still wearing a mask. Jeanne Ellis, who served as senior legal counsel to former President Donald Trump, even posted a picture of the Supreme Court Justices. They posed for a recent photo op maskless and sitting right next to one another after all being vaccinated against coronavirus. “So why is Biden still wearing a mask??” She wrote.
“The View’s” conservative co-host Megan McCain even blasted President Biden for wearing a mask during the virtual climate summit. She talked about some of the issues surrounding vaccine and mask-wearing guidance in the U.S, then asked why he would wear a mask on a Zoom Call.
“There’s a lot of theatre about wearing masks. I still never understood why people were asked to wear masks outside when science and logic told us that the place you were probably least likely to get Covid was outside, especially on a beach in the sun and if it’s windy,” McCain said.
During a recent press briefing, White House Press secretary Jen Psaki was asked about President Biden wearing a mask on the call by Fox News’ Peter Doocy. He notes that the president has been fully vaccinated and was the only world leader wearing a mask.
“Because he is sending a message to the world that he is putting in place precautions and continuing to do that as leader of the United States. I don’t know what setups they all had in their countries. That may warrant some more reporting or not. But obviously, he had a pool there for portions. There were additional staff there, additional personnel. And that’s the sort of model that we try to keep ourselves to,” Psaki responded.
Doocy tells Psaki that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines state that people who are fully vaccinated can gather in their homes without masks, but Psaki argues that it’s “not for workplace guidance.”
Others have argued that Biden wearing a mask on Zoom contributes to the narrative that getting vaccinated won’t change anything. They continue to push the same mask mandates and lockdown tactics that have been proven unrelated to the spread of COVID-19. Democrats are not the party of “following the science,” they follow whatever narrative they want to push.
