During a preview of his upcoming book “Radical Nation: Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s Dangerous Plan for America,” former Trump press secretary and adviser Sean Spicer said Donald Trump is “in” on a 2024 run.
“He’s in. A couple of months ago, I wasn’t sure. Now … there needs to be something that will keep him out,” Spicer said.
Spicer revealed that Trump has been meeting with his 2024 Cabinet to see the field he might face and has banked more than $102 million in campaign funds, lost weight, and kept his approval ratings high ahead of a third run. Even Pollster John McLaughlin said that the more Biden fails, the better Trump looks.
While Trump has yet to confirm a presidency, Spicer shared that he has been encouraged to run based on his displeasure with the Biden Administration. He felt incredibly motivated after Biden reversed many Trump-era immigration policies.
Spicer adds that Trump will be a “kingmaker” during the 2022 midterm elections, with a number of endorsements and candidates ahead of those races. Trump acknowledged in the past that he would “100 percent” consider another run for president but said he would wait until after the midterms to make any announcements. If Trump won, he would be the oldest person to win a presidential election. Biden currently holds the spot at 77 but would be 81 if he ran again and won in 2024.
Trump recently met with ten of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) members to discuss their policy agenda and a path to the majority in 2023. The RSC has also met with a string of other potential 2024 candidates including former Vice President Mike Pence, Sen. Marco Rubio, Sen. Tom Cotton, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
RSC Chairman Jim Banks said they’ve modeled their policy’s vision after Trump’s agenda while he was in office. He talked about the election integrity bill, The Save Democracy Act, how to define immigration moving forward, and expanding the role of the group. Banks explained how Trump’s “populist messaging” is the best path forward in retaining the GOP base and taking back the majority. He said Trump was excited to go out and campaign for candidates who share the same vision.
“We spent nearly two hours with President Trump, who’s in great spirits. We talked for most of the time about the work that the Republican Study Committee is doing to define the agenda for the future course of the Republican Party, which is fighting for the Trump agenda,” Banks said.
Trump did not share any 2024 goals or ambitions with the group, but members said they were supportive of a potential 2024 bid. Even if he didn’t run, RSC members have encouraged Trump to continue communicating and engaging with the American people.
Whether or not this is true, it’s a warning to the Democrats that after 2 attempted impeachments and a stolen election, they still can’t keep Trump away.
